A photograph is expected to reveal truth, but when cut up and reassembled those traces of truth become confused. The artists in Phantom Limb distort mainstream media culture through the art of collage. In the presented works there is an emphasis on the representation of the human body and its environments. The images are taken from glossy style magazines, pornography, pulp fiction and archival sources. They are reshaped to represent a relationship to the original image, a comparison between realities and a subversive escape from societal norms.
