More so after 9-11, Katrina and the Sichuan Earthquake, images of a vulnerable built environment have been permanently ingrained in our minds. My work aims to challenge neutralized visual fields and give meaning to normalized experience by way of wonder, empathy, and associative memory. Through research based in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Dujiangyan, I have been investigating the visual similarities between places undergoing urbanization and those struck by natural disaster.
